The axe. A simple tool, ancient in design, yet it holds a quiet, relentless power. I once heard that if you were going to cut down a big tree, you would want to spend most of your time sharpening the axe. Through the years I´ve taken this analogy and applied it to different areas of my life. No matter the size of the tree, sooner or later it will be cut down. There’s something about its simplicity. A single blade, honed to precision, ready to strike. It doesn’t overwhelm with sheer size; it relies on its sharp edge and the steady hand that wields it. Every hit is purposeful, every strike calculated. No wasted movement. Just focus.
An axe doesn’t rush. It doesn’t need to. It goes at its own rhythm, chipping away bit by bit… knowing that each swing brings it closer to the heart of the task. It’s deliberate. It´s enduring. It´s a reminder that true strength isn’t loud or flashy. It’s built in the consistency of the blade, the focus in each strike.
This has had a huge impact on me and the way I run things, and it´s become a tenet. A principle to live by. Wether it’s learning a new skill, one attempt at a time. Re-inventing ones whole life one piece of identity at a time. Writing a long story one word at a time. Or overcoming one´s fears, one step at a time. Martial arts is the best example. The most important idea behind all martial arts: technique overcomes strength. It doesn´t matter how big your opponent is, if you have the technical upper hand you will 99% of the time come out on top. 1% is reserved for those times that well… you know, it just wasn’t your day, you were kinda unlucky and shit happens. And if you wanna know what Im talking about just look up Saenchai in muay thai and Marcelo Garcia in jiujitsu. That might just get you hooked on either haha.
